Portland Gear is a local apparel brand and they reached out to me and my friend Sammi Wong to help visualize a collection for ‘23 Lunar New Year.
2023 is the Year of the Rabbit for countries like China and Korea but it’s the Year of the Cat for Vietnam. In order to create a line that is inclusive and feels like “ours” the art direction centered around the theme “Under the Moon.” No matter what where Lunar New Year is celebrated, the special day revolves around celebrating under the new moon. “Under the Moon” was also the perfect title for the launch party of the collection. The hue was drawn from the vibrant night life found in Asia that is depicted in video games, neon signs and art.
